We All Live Downstream

The Chesapeake Bay Foundation led a petition to the Council on Environmental Quality and the President’s Cabinet to study the cumulative impacts of the Marcellus drilling via an Environmental Impact Statement.

This is not a new topic.  Rather, it’s a topic that has gained momentum among regional and national organizations.  And for good reason.  Just as Pennsylvania’s roads are vital to interstate commerce, so are its waterways.  All states within the Bay watershed are affected by what PA does (or more importantly does NOT do).

To add to the great text in the petition, Pennsylvania is turning a blind eye, in deference to the enrichment of corporations and major landowners.  This petition is shining a light on the fact that decisions (or lack thereof) in PA affect more than those just in view of that particular well.
